Friendship Meals


The meal program provides nutritionally balanced meals at noon, Monday through Friday. At the Friendship Meal Dining Centers one finds pleasant companionship, a variety of interesting group activities and practical information on diet and exercise. Both the meals and the information provided are designed to assist Seniors in remaining healthy and independent.

Who is eligible?
The program is designed for persons 60 years of age and older and their spouses who:
•Find pleasure in companionship
•Find it difficult to shop and / or cook for themselves
•Would enjoy more menu varieties and benefit from a nutritionally balanced meal

How much Does It Cost?
There is no set fee for the meals, but the price is posted at each site. Participants are encouraged to contribute to the cost of the meal according to their ability to pay. No eligible person is denied a meal due to the inability to pay.

Program Funding Sources
Funding for the Friendship Meals is provided through the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging provided by the Older Americans Act, the Kansas Department on Aging, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Shawnee County Service Programs for the Elderly and by individual participant contributions.
